One of the major setback for new employees are OVER PROMISES !...made by directly/ indirectly by employers,recruitment agencies, HR ,hiring managers, employees who refer these new employees, college alumni, company alumni, vendors/ suppliers...
We as employers need to present more realistic picture to new joiners and even let them know about less glamorous parts.
Working for a Aerospace Strategic Business Group might look / feel ... a Glamor job role... * but whats the reality ...whats the other side of Singaporean Dollar !
Statistics ..from SHL echo the same
* 27% of new employees find that their jobs are not as described
* 44% are asked to do job beyond their job description
* 33% find job environment worse then they expected
* 40% don't find help from systems & processes
* 1 Out of 3 find it difficult to get along with colleagues and management
Probation should not be the time employers should just judge employee performance but also need to realize that employees to judge the org equally. Probation is a double edged sword.... using it is more an Art then science
Induction are the next in line which employers use it as process rather than a strategic intervention to influence new joiners. Inductions are usually inadequate and help to complicate the matters more
